My hidden talent

november 2022

We’ve all got that friend with the weird hidden talent. You know the one?

They look pretty normal, they do all the normal people things – go to work, go to the gym, have kids, go on holiday…  They’re in all ways…normal.

Then one day, they drop into the conversation about their hidden talent.

They’re an expert in metamorphic rocks and have a YouTube channel, they used to play football for the county, they can speak 4 different languages or they can talk backwards, walk like a crab or they can open a bottle of beer with their eyelid!

The thing is, most people have a hidden talent of some kind. Something that isn’t apparent in normal, daily life but they’re really good at.  Now, I can’t walk on my hands or mimic the sound of a killer whale, I can’t knit tea cosies with my feet and I’m not a secret influencer on TikTok. But I do have a pretty good knowledge of history – especially the World Wars! Give me your attention and I’ll happily talk for hours on the subject…

But it’s not just me that has a hidden talent – Millennium does too. And we got to use it recently for one of our customers. A little while ago, a client contacted us and said they wanted to move some furniture from the UK over to Italy. They arranged for us to come to pick it up, but when we got there only part of it was ready. They didn’t want to move it in multiple lots, so they asked if we could take half of it away and hold onto it until the rest was ready – it wouldn’t be long! They said…

Luckily for them, we don’t just do freight we can offer warehousing too, along with a whole host of other services that may surprise you ! So we took the furniture, packed it up into storage and waited. Days, weeks, months ticked by… and still, it wasn’t ready. But it was ok. It wasn’t clogging up their space and getting in their way, it wasn’t racking up ridiculous fees at the docks and it wasn’t causing anyone a problem. Eventually, 12 months on they contacted us to say the rest of the load was ready, so we picked it all up and it’s now enjoying its new home over in Italy.

But this got me thinking… we don’t talk about the fact we offer warehousing nearly enough. In fact, I bet you didn’t even know that we did? It’s a bit of a hidden talent… And that’s bad business. You see, as a business owner, it’s your job to make sure that your customers know exactly what you can offer them. It’s not your customers’ job to educate themselves on every part of your service.

So do you do a good enough job of making sure your customers know everything you offer? Or does your business have a few hidden talents too… Let me know
