I’m not a big reader. But I do buy a lot of books.

The intention is there. But I just put them on my bookshelf and never use them. So this year, I set myself a challenge to read one book per month. I’ve got myself a Kindle, I’ve got Audible, I’ve got all the apps, but for some reason, I really struggle to sit down and engross myself in a book.

Over the years, I’ve read some incredible business books. Some have literally transformed the way I do business and significantly impacted the quality of my life. I know the power of reading. Whether it’s an autobiography, a book about history, or a business book, I know the ideas, inspiration, and knowledge those books have to offer are immense. So why don’t I read more? Why do my books come home to sit on a shelf and gather dust?

Now, I know I’m not alone in this. Speak to any business owner, and they’ve probably got a “to read” list longer than their arm. The intention is there, but the action isn’t. So that’s what I plan to change with my challenge. Each month, I am going to complete a new book. It doesn’t matter what type of book it is, just a whole book from front to back.

I’ll be honest, it’s turned out to be harder than I thought. January went as planned, one book completed. But in February, I made a rookie mistake. I chose a book without looking at how long it is! A beast of a thing with 700+ pages, so I have to say I am still a little behind. But I’ll catch up before March is done, and will learn from my mistake and choose a more achievable title for this month.

So how about you? Do you read? Or are you an accidental book hoarder? What’s the one book you’ve read that’s had an incredible impact on your life? And if your “to read” list is a little long, why not join me in my “one book a month” challenge!
