A very important question

june 2022

How do you feel about the Queen? It’s weirdly one of the questions us Brits get asked a lot. The honest answer is that I don’t often spare little old queenie much of a thought.

While we might be one of the last monarchies still standing, the royal family have very little influence on daily life in Britain.

Except for when it comes to the Jubilee… Every 10 years the Queen celebrates another Jubilee. And it brings the whole country to a halt.

As the longest-reigning British monarch in history, she’s had a fair few. In fact, this year we’re celebrating 70 years since she took to the throne! When it comes to the Jubilee we know how to celebrate. Streets up and down the country are adorned with the Union Jack, roads are closed for street parties and we throw a good old, traditional British knees up – tea and cake galore. I still remember the street party we had for the Queen’s jubilee when I was a child. The street was filled with tables, chairs and cake and even a fire engine came along for the kids to climb in.

But it’s not just the Queen that has cause to celebrate. There’s another very important date that’s just passed… My birthday

Just a few days ago your good friend Chadd here celebrated another turn around the sun. The family took me on a fun-filled weekend in London where we took in the sights and enjoyed a West End performance of Wicked.

Now, I’m not big on birthdays. I don’t need lots of gifts or a big fuss. But I do think these big events -whether it’s a birthday or even a Jubilee – are the perfect time to stop and reflect on the year just gone. Too often are we caught up in the moment, working hard and just getting things done, that life seems to slip by. Before you know it another year is done and you’re not sure where it went.

But if you stop. Take a minute. And actually think through all the things that have happened, all the adventures you’ve had all the things you’ve accomplished in those past 12 months, you start to see just how much you’ve really done. That’s how I like to celebrate – I wonder if the Queen will do the same on her Jubilee? 70 years as the reigning monarch she must have some cracking memories…

So how about you? When did you last stop and reflect? And what are you most proud of in the last 12 months? I’d love to hear your stories…
