The well had run dry…
Last week, I sat down with my PA – cuppa in hand, head a bit foggy – and she hit me with a question… “Chadd, where do you get all your blog ideas from?”
Now, this is a question I’ve heard a million times before on my travels. My emails and blogs have been going out every week for over 7 years, and they’ve got a bit of a fan following. That’s over 360 blogs and emails… 360+ stories, tales and ideas. And I’ve never had an issue coming up with them… until now.
The truth is, recently my head has been a bit all over the shop. It’s been a busy few months – new office, new team, a hospital stay, juggling everything from customer calls to dodgy coffee machines and post-op recuperation. My creative spark hasn’t been sparking, and I wasn’t sure why.
She looked at me, deadpan, and said: “You’ve not been out there recently, have you?” And she was right. I hadn’t been doing what I do best – chatting, connecting, meeting people, bouncing around ideas like a kid in a sweet shop. I’d been stuck behind a desk, buried in the busy.
That night, I sat in my new armchair in the new office (big upgrade, very comfy), and it hit me… I need to get back out there. Because when I’m out and about – talking to clients, swapping stories at events, grabbing a beer with someone I just met – that’s when the ideas flow. That’s my area of genius. People. Networking. Connecting. And when you operate from your area of genius? Good things happen.
So, as we head into prime networking season – with global conferences lined up across Asia, Dubai, Europe – I’m excited to get moving again. To reconnect. To feed my creative fire. Because freight might be what I do. But people? That’s where the magic is.
So where’s your area of genius – and when was the last time you were in it?
Hit reply and tell me. I’d love to know.
